Bristol Airports Original Air Traffic Control Tower

You can't fail to notice the modern grey air traffic control tower which stands just to the west of the new passenger terminal which was opened in March 2000. The new tower provides the air traffic controllers who work there, with state of the art technology to manage operations both on the ground and in the busy airspace around the airport.

But what was the original air traffic control tower like before the new tower was built?

The white tinted windowed, original air traffic control tower can be easily seen standing proud on top of the old terminal building which now serves as the administration building, and whilst its not as tall is the new tower, it still commands impressive views across the apron, and runway 27/09.

Below are a collection of photos taken from inside the tower which will give you an idea of the view the air traffic controllers had when the tower was in operation.

There are also a selection of photos taken outside the tower looking across the apron and runway and a video of the view from the tower.
