When the Ash Cloud lead to Bristol and all UK Airports Closing
It is a rare occasion when a busy airport temporarily suspends operations, but this was the case from the 15th April to the early hours of the 21st April when Bristol Airport and all the airports in the United Kingdom were forced to close when a volcano in Iceland erupted causing a huge cloud of volcanic ash to be blown south east causing the closure of UK airspace as well as airspace in Europe.

During this time window, virtually all of the airspace across the United Kingdom was closed down due to concerns with the volcanic ash from the erupting volcano in Iceland entering aircraft jet engines and essentially causing the engines to malfunction and shut down.

Below is a selection of photos taken at Bristol Airport whilst all aircraft were grounded.
